The tsunami in the Indian Ocean on Boxing Day in 2004 was the deadliest in recorded history, killing approximately 230 000 people. Three out of four victims were in Indonesia, though other countries suffered great losses too.

In this documentary we meet to two families hit by the giant wave, one Swedish and one Thai. We follow them for a whole year, and meet them at various stages of their grief. 14-year-old Mio Jonsson from Oxeloesund in Sweden was in Thailand on holiday with her father, mother and sister when the wave struck. The Nang Thong Bay Resort, where they were staying in Khao Lak, was totally destroyed, and Mio was killed. “You will never return home, no matter how long we wait. But we meet you in our dreams and we hold one another, and you comfort us” Mio’s family wrote these words on their homepage. The parents Lajla and Tommy, and Mio’s sister Linn are trying to raise funds to help rebuild the village of Khao Lak. The other family that features is a young Thai couple and their child. The mother lost both her parents to the tsunami, and the family’s hotel was destroyed. “Another Day”, by Gellert Tamas and Henrik Hjort, is a film about coping with tragedy and grief across cultures, and how the families learn to move on.
